Larimer County Jail Overview

The Larimer County Jail is operated by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office at 2405 Midpoint Drive in Fort Collins. The Sheriff's Office is led by Sheriff John J. Feyen, and the research file identifies the Jail Division under Captain Troy Badberg. The jail is the county-level custody point for arrests by the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, Fort Collins Police Services, Loveland Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado State University Police, Timnath, Berthoud, Estes Park, parole authorities, and other agencies that book people into local custody.

Larimer publishes more jail data than many counties. The official jail pages route users to current inmate search, booking reports, released-inmate lists, the jail population dashboard, visitation, inmate communication, inmate money, bonds, VINE notification, and Sheriff's Office records requests. The public search is for people currently in Larimer County Jail. It is not the same thing as a Colorado Department of Corrections search for sentenced prison custody, a BOP search for sentenced federal custody, or ICE ODLS for immigration detention.

The jail page shown in this image is the matching successful facility capture from the official source. The image comes from Larimer County's jail overview page, which lists the jail contact block and routes readers to bonds, money, property, communication, and programs.

Larimer County Jail Capacity and Population

The official jail-population module inspected June 1, 2026 lists a full-use capacity of 805 beds and a target operating capacity of 604 beds, or 75 percent. Larimer explains that actual usable capacity is lower than the raw bed count because people must be housed separately by classification, including sex and gender, juveniles and adults, co-defendants, transgender, transsexual, and intersex inmates, violent inmates, holds, and other custody categories.

The same research showed a current total of 461 people in custody on June 1, 2026, based on 391 male and 70 female entries in the official gender JSON. The inmate-type file showed 352 pre-sentenced, 73 sentenced, and 36 hold entries. Those numbers should be treated as time-sensitive jail-population data, not as a permanent count.

How to Look Up an Inmate at Larimer County Jail

Start with the official Larimer County Jail inmate search. The page is free in the research file and did not show a login requirement. It searches current jail custody only. If the person was released, transferred to CDOC, held federally, or placed in immigration custody, use the fallback channels instead of assuming the name is absent for every system.

  1. Open the inmate-search page and choose the Search Inmates tab if it is not already selected.
  2. Type at least two letters of the person's last name. The field uses autocomplete, so review the name and DOB suggestions rather than submitting a broad free-form search.
  3. Select the correct suggestion and confirm that the record says the person is connected to Larimer County Jail current custody.
  4. Review the Inmate #, Jail ID when shown, arrest date, agency, charges, bond type, bond amount, and any upcoming court dates.
  5. If no match appears, check the booking report, released-inmates page, VINELink, the jail information line at (970) 498-5200, or the Sheriff's Office records request process.

Booking and Intake at Larimer County Jail

Booking begins after arrest, warrant surrender, sentence surrender, or another lawful hold. The jail creates a booking number, records the arresting agency and case information, enters charge and bond fields, screens property, and classifies the person for housing. People turning themselves in are told to arrive substance-free, bring government ID, court documents, cash for bond or commissary, necessary medications in original containers, and minimal property. Outside books, electronics, food, tobacco, e-cigarettes, lighters, and knives are not allowed.

LCSO does not promise a fixed booking or release time. Processing may take longer during evenings, weekends, holidays, or when an arrestee is combative or unable to cooperate. The jail also documents detoxification holds in limited circumstances; those holds are not ordinary arrests and are used as a last resort for a short period.

About Larimer County Jail

Larimer County Jail programs include a reentry-oriented Programs team, a grant-funded Medically Assisted Treatment program for opioid and alcohol use disorders, a digital library with more than 7,000 books, GED-related programming, hygiene and indigent mail support, medical and mental-health services, and classification-separated housing. The official population dashboard also publishes local categories such as homeless, transient, and shelter status, which makes the jail population dashboard a useful supplement to the roster.

The Sheriff's Office also posts a practical scam warning around bond and money pages. LCSO says scammers use public booking information to contact families and demand payment for early release, ankle monitors, breathalyzers, or extra charges. Real agencies do not call demanding untraceable payment by PayPal, wire transfer, Zelle, Venmo, cryptocurrency, or gift cards.
